Welcome to Ellen Writes
This website introduces my latest work: The Cauliflower Ear Club. It’s a book that has been simmering in my mind these past 35 years, ever since my husband coached a Canadian university wrestling team of boys who transformed into extraordinary men.
The Cauliflower Ear Club is loosely based on that particular team plus additional stories from three generations of wrestlers. These tales may have been exaggerated into legends, but every incident has a piece of truth, of sand in the pearl. I have merged many different personalities into unique characters into the novel, recognizing that the character of every single committed wrestler that I know could fill a room.
This website is a blatant response to the social media demanded to accompany a new venture, to showcase an ability to market and sell. I initially approached it like a rabid dog tethered to a post. But now I am enjoying the process of discovering a circuitous view of my past, present and hopes for the future as I scour through my old, published articles, blogs, magazine articles, posts and editing for others. I have never thought much about my writing; it was something I simply did, for work, pleasure and closure. Now I realize it also is a map of life.
The blogs here are recent. Please check them out.
I also have amalgamated previous websites and work. You can read a little from my past books, Gardening from a Hammock and Healing Cannabis Edibles by clicking on the covers. Past work in different publications and through previous jobs are included as this is now going to be my final website and memory repository. Although I can’t deny the tinges of nostalgia as I recycled yellowed newspapers, clippings and magazines, these are eclipsed by my excitement, imagining and planning what comes next.
Enjoy!
